Artistic-historical route

The Riviera del Garda has a wealth of fascinating historical-artistic features. This easy route visits some of the most interesting aspects of the area ranging from prehistory to the Longobards and from the Della Scala family to the Risorgimento.  
  • Desenzano: archaeological sites of the morainic lake of Lavagnone, the Civic Museum “Giovanni Rambotti” with the prehistoric plough, the archaeological sites of  the Roman Villa;
  • Lonato: the Scaligera rock and the Roman ovens, the nobles palaces and the home of the  Podestà of the Serene Republic of Venice, the San Martino della Battaglia Tower, La Spia D’Italia, dating back to the second war of independence (24 June 1859);
  • Padenghe: the Ghibelline fortress that was later taken over by the Della Scala family;
  • Pozzolengo: the castrum on mount Fluno;
  • Sirmione: the Scaligera rock, the medieval village, the home of Maria Callas, the  Sirmione Catullo literary prize founded in 1980.
The route also gives tourists the chance to make some guided visits.
The surroundings are also culturally rich:
  • opera at the Arena of Verona;
  • ballet and theatre at the Roman Theatre in Verona;
  • exhibitions at the Museo di S. Giulia in Brescia;
  • prose at the Vittoriale di Gardone Riviera;
  • exhibitions in Mantua, Milan and Venice.
