Bronchopneumology
Terme di Sirmione is equipped with a Bronchopneumology Centre, specialised in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of some diseases of the trachea, bronchi and lungs.
- Acute recurrent tracheobronchitis: this involves acute inflammatory episodes of the trachea and the bronchi that occur several times a year. Acute infections of the lower airways associated to those of the main airways are also particularly frequent in children. They are the cause of numerous absences from school and work. The constant symptom is a cough that is initially dry.
- Simple chronic bronchitis: this is a persistent inflammation of the lower airways with an abnormal production of catarrh lasting for at least three months a year for two consecutive years. It can be caused by chronic irritation of the airways, caused by atmospheric pollution or smoking and the repeated occurrence of infections of the trachea and bronchi. The symptom is a persistent cough, especially in the morning, with the expulsion of catarrh.
- Chronic obstructive bronchopneumopathy (COBP): this is a series of diseases of the respiratory system, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, cystic fibrosis, bronchial ectasia. COBP implies a chronic obstruction of the airways. It is characterised by alternate periods of relative wellness and acute phases of the disease.
- Allergic bronchial asthma: the word asthma comes from the Greek and means literally breathlessness. This breathing difficulty is due to a narrowing of the diameter of the bronchi that can occur in response to a variety of physical, chemical and biologic stimuli. One of the most frequent causes of asthma is an allergy to pollen, fungi, household dusts, animal dandruff. Symptoms are breathlessness, a sense of thoracic oppression, a whistling noise when breathing and a cough.
